On 17 July , Flinders landed at what is now known as Woody Point , which he named “Red Cliff Point” after the red-coloured cliffs visible from the bay. The newly selected Brisbane region, at the time, was plagued by mosquitos. These immigrants were selected and assisted through immigration programs established by John Dunmore Lang and Johann Christian Heussler and were offered free passage, good wages and selections of land. He formed additional outstations and made several important journeys of exploration. He is also infamous for his extreme use of the Cat o’ nine tails on convicts. The maximum allowed limit of lashes was 50 however Logan regularly applied sentences of lashes. MacArthur had previously rejected use of the University of Queensland complex as his headquarters, as the distinctive bends in the river at St Lucia could have aided enemy bombers. This incident became known colloquially as the Battle of Brisbane. The State government under Joh Bjelke-Petersen began a major program of change and urban renewal , beginning with the central business district and inner suburbs.

Beyond Benarkin, the trail is almost flat for the final short stretch into Blackbutt village. Mountain bikers should consider riding up the trail from Linville, enjoy a stop at Blackbutt and then zoom back down in half the time four to five hours altogether including time for decadent milkshakes at Blackbutt.
In a group, less confident riders can enjoy just the downhill run.

Marek Stanislaw Waszkiewicz, known as “Voski”, pleaded guilty to seven child sex offences against the child who was aged 11 during the initial offending – including indecent treatment and making child exploitation material. Crown Prosecutor Nathan Turner said the year-old had given the teen alcohol, a video console and games, phone credit, cigarettes, clothing and money – in exchange for sleepovers that involved taking naked photographs and sexual favours including oral sex, touching and kissing.
Mr Turner said Waszkiewicz also hid the boy from police and his parents when he ran away. Mr Turner said Waszkiewicz “was of the belief they were in a relationship” – wanting to get married, threatening suicide if they broke up and giving his victim Valentine’s Day gifts.
